TY News & Events

During the year some of our TY's took part in a program to learn more about & raise awareness of Alzheimer's & Dementia in our school.

Huge congratulations to Lily O Callaghan, Elaine Thompson and Freya O Riordan who won the annual Meihua Cup Chinese Language competition today. Great achievement.

Many thanks to Caroline Casey Road Safety Officer with @corkcountycouncil, emergency services & all the incredible speakers for a very impactful & informative road safety presentation in Mallow Racecourse on Thursday 1st May.

A number of TY students attended a two day Easter School in UCC. This experience offered them a taste of student life in UCC. Students were offered the opportunity to engage in many academic fields from science and engineering to business and law, along with medicine and health.

What an amazing experience! Well done to Roisin, Ruth, Ella and Annalise who visited India over the Easter break. It wasn’t an easy undertaking to raise €2000 each which was directed sent to HOPE for each of their projects.

Our TY students completed the GAA Go Games Referee and Introduction to Coaching Gaelic Games Courses this week with our local GDA Cian O’Connor ⚽️🎾

One of our mini-company groups ‘Bosca Focal’ participated in the MTU Innovation Day today. The students really enjoyed the day & represented the school so well. Well done 👏🏻

TY students put on their dancing shoes and hit the halls during the week. They learned the basics of Jiving and a little bit of Line dancing. Dancing with the Stars might have some new recruits in the future.

50 TYs took part in the Apple TY programme this month. The students were brought to the European headquarters and took part video and photography workshops, learned about cloud computing, and got to participate in a Q&A panel with some of Apple's staff. Students also were treated to lunch and dessert from Apple's Michelin Starr restaurants.

UCC today. They all had an enjoyable experience and represented the Coláiste admirably. The winners will be announced next week - best of luck to all involved 🤞🤞

Well done to TY students Tiernan Mulcahy, John Walsh and Jack Mortell who represented the school on a national level at the recent Certified Irish Angus school's competition.

Twenty Transition Year students visited the Virgin Media studios in Dublin this week, where they received an exclusive tour of some of the most well-known locations on Irish television.

Rob from FRS gave a presentation to the TY students on how farming has evolved in recent times and how students can get involved in the agricultural sector by working with FRS. Rob highlighted opportunities for earning money while learning and gaining real world experience.

Our TY students put their driving abilities to the test when they spent some time on the driving track at Munster Driving Campus during the week.

Huge well done to Tiernan Mulcahy and Billy Breen again on their recent tractor run fundraiser. The total amount raised was €2300 which the boys chose to split between two very worthwhile charities Pieta House and Hope Foundation.

TY’s, 5th and 6th Year Ag Science students attended a talk with the Irish Agroforestry Forum, learning about the benefits of incorporating trees onto agricultural land.

Congratulations to Ella, Ava, Lauren and Gracie who won 'Best Sales' at the North Cork Student Enterprise Awards for their mini company 'Pebbles'. 

The TY students got the opportunity to experience the variety of pathways Tramore Rd College offers students to get where they want in life and their career beyond CAO points.

We are delighted to announce that we are introducing the Deposit Return Scheme in the Coláiste♻️.

The TY students got the opportunity to experience taster courses in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy during the week in Mallow College of Further Education. 

Our TY business classes went on a financial literacy trip on Monday with the assistance of @ccpcireland ‘Our Money, Our Future’ sponsorship initiative.

Our TY students completed a “Basic First Aid Course”. Each student received a Ballyhass Basic First Aid Cert to add to their portfolio or CV.

TY students took part in a Road Safety Workshop with Caroline Casey from Cork County Council. Caroline gave them a presentation with some very difficult and hard-hitting scenes about road safety. T

With stage 1 completed and approved by judges with a video entry, our TY students John, Jack @ Tiernan had their interview Thursday in Moorepark Fermoy stage 2 of the Certified Irish Angus Beef Schools Competition.

Final day of the BTYS 2025 where the girls have been visited by members of the public and family members. While the girls were unlucky this year at the awards ceremony they were outstanding ambassadors for the Colaiste.

The Tea Party helped our TY group to relax and unwind before finishing up for the Christmas break.
