Week 4 - '5k within your 5k Challenge'

Hi all,
For Week 4, we have decided to introduce the ‘5k within your 5k Challenge’. We are asking every student/staff to complete a 5k walk/run within their 5km distance, complying with the latest Covid restrictions. We are also asking everyone to complete this 5k with a family member/friend (complying with 2m social distancing) as we know that Physical Activity is more important now than ever for our physical and mental health. Feel free to tag your walking partner in a photo in Strava!

Week 3 Fitness Challenge Results

Hi all,
A huge well done to all those that got out and active for Week 3 of the Coláiste Mhuire Fitness Challenge, the Head-to-Head competition. Congratulations to the 1st, 2nd and 5th year groups for winning their respective challenges! At the end of the week, we noticed some encouraging statistics for Week 3:
- The number of students in each year group on Strava continues to increase, with 291 students and staff now registered and using the app!
- As a school, we completed 3,458km this week, which was a slight decrease from last weeks number, but we are committed to improving on this score for Week 4 - The 5k within your 5k
- For the first time in the challenge, we saw the teachers being beaten to the top of the leaderboard, with the 2nd years taking the title for the most active group in the school!
- And finally, we had new leaders for each year group for Week 3, which is very encouraging to see and also highlights the competitiveness of some of the students in each year group.

Have a look at our next post to see what we have in store for Week 4!

School Meals Provision During Lockdown

Dear Parent/Guardian

As you are aware we are very lucky in the school to be able to provide a service whereby your son/daughter has the option of a free breakfast and a subsidised lunch in school each day. During this difficult time, we would like to ensure that families continue to get the benefit of the scheme where necessary. The Government and the Department of Education have confirmed that the School Meals scheme is an essential service and therefore the following arrangements are being put in place to continue it. If you already expressed an interest in early January, we will assume you wish to receive delivery this month also and there is no further action required. If you did not express an interest last month but now wish to do so, please follow the instructions outlined below.

School Update

Prior to the holidays, I’m sure none of us envisaged such dramatic rises in COVID 19 numbers over the short Christmas period. As of Wednesday 6th January, the government announced that school buildings will now remain closed until Friday 29th of January except for 6th Yr students and students attending special classes, who were set to attend school from next week. Whilst we had commenced planning to welcome these students back in as safe a manner as possible, Wednesdays’ announcement by the minister for education sparked much debate and concern nationally, resulting in a reverse of the decision tonight. Provision for all students will now be through online learning for the coming weeks.
