Tea and Chats

Today the Student Council organised “tea and chats” for the Leaving Cert students. They were able to enjoy one class off during their stressful preparations for the exams and enjoy tea, buns and biscuits and a bit of banter. Thanks a million to everybody involved. Junior Certs - you’re up next 😊

Ag Science Pig Farm Visit

Our sixth year Ag Science class paid a visit to a local pig farm today. What a fantastic, educational, hands-on, practical experience it was for us all. The facts we learned today will be put to good use in our up-coming oral exam in Ag Science just after Easter.
Thanks a million to Margaret (pig farmer) for showing us around her farm and allowing us to get us close with her baby bonhams.

Robotics All Ireland Champions

Congratulations to all the members of the Colaiste Robotics team on there recent All Ireland win. The picture shows vex robotics teams - KINETIC KELTS, ROBOTICS REBEL, AND MECH MAYHEM collectively picking up the tournament award for this years 2019/20 Tower Takeover Vex Robotics competition at CIT cork. This comes after picking up the robot skills award in the regional at DELL Limerick a week before.

Double Win in Girls Basketball

Both teams came out on top Friday away to Colaiste Treasa, Kanturk. Our 1st yrs had a very tight win 20-17 and our 2nd yrs had a convincing win 32-9. Two great games of basketball 🏀. Well done to both teams. Up next is Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk on Friday 14th February in Kanturk.

This week the 5th year Ag Science class paid a visit to our local sheep farmer Mrs Sheena Mc Carthy. Sheena gave us a detailed practical account on sheep management and husbandry on her farm. To answer any sheep queries we may have she has agreed to pay a visit to our Ag Science class in the next week or so.

Literacy Week Prize-giving and Student Work

Well done to everyone in the school for a very exciting literacy week which was full of activities. Zoe Crowley, Clara O’ Sullivan and Erin Corbett won our ‘Guess Who?’ Competition by matching the book cover and clues to the correct teacher/SNA. Sarah Salvin, Emily Mulder, Danny Ryan and Hugh Feehan were our Golden ticket winners figuring out clues through comprehension.

All Ireland Linguistic Olympiad

On the 28th January 2020, Kelly, Cathal and Gabriella (Transition Year Students) took part in the preliminary round of the All Ireland Linguistic Olympiad or AILO. The AILO is a contest in which secondary school students develop strategies for solving problems in interesting languages from around the globe most of which are not known. They used their skills to solve puzzles such as deciphering Idalion tablet (see picture) and translating Kolyma Yukagir from the Far East of Russia.

Student Council Training Day

Today the Student Council participated in an ISSU (Irish Second-Level Students’ Union) training day in Colaiste Treasa Kanturk.
They participated in a variety of activities throughout the day such as walking debates, mock elections and conducted a SWOT analysis.
The students were invested in the programme and enjoyed themselves throughout the day.

Congratulations to our U14 girls football team with a impressive victory today over Mount Mercy College (Cork). Winning by a score line of 9-06 to 1-01. They are now through to a County semi-final. Well done and best of luck in the semi-final.

The teaching union Teachers Union of Ireland (TUI) have informed the ETB that all TUI union members have been directed to take strike action on Tuesday 4th February. Pickets will be placed on all schools/centres where TUI members are employed on that day.
